Had so much good food in Tofino last weekend.  Between the wind and the rain and waiting for good waves, we got to check out some really good locally owned spots.  I didn’t know Tofino had such a food scene!

Liquid Energy:

Tofino Coffee Roasting Company – great lattes and REALLY good cookies (salted chocolate chunk is a must)

Tofitian – a newer little cafe right off the highway about 5 minutes from town (closer to the waves!), the latte was tasty and I really dig the pirate theme on the cups…can’t decide which spot had better coffee, both were muy bueno

The Most Important Meal of the Day:

Common Loaf Bake Shop – all I’m going to say is: breakfast pizza (the maroon and green building pictured above, right in town)

Rainy Day Comfort Food:

SoBo – we went here for lunch one very wet day and got some salmon chowder and miso soup with a side of their freshly baked sourdough, the perfect warm meal on a soggy day…I remember the noodles in the miso being really good, too

Dinner Time:

Wolf in the Fog – delicious seafood and generally Canadian cuisine (the wait staff were all wearing plaid!), we had some duck with quinoa and some fried cod cheeks…super cool presentation and the vibe inside was nice while still laid back…definitely recommend going here if you want a good sit down meal

On the Road:

Bare Bones Fish & Chip Ltd – on the way back to the mainland we stopped in Port Alberni for some fish & chips here…the restaurant is in an old renovated church with some neat stained glass windows as well as a selection of five different tartar sauces to choose from (wasabi aioli is amazing)…the perfect pit stop on the way to/from Tofino

Goats on the Roof – the little town of Coombs is right before you get to Nanaimo (where the ferry terminal is) and has this awesome market area with great local products like honey, jams, bread…everything haha…but the best part is that the roof of the building has grass all over it and goats just nibble and frolic up there, so G…great ice cream/gelato there too!

All right that sums up all the tastiness of last weekend.  Needed the energy to surf the stormy waves, duh haha!  Time to get some research work done before the weekend begins (city weekend woohoo).  Happy friday babeskillets, Tita xx
