Sunny 7th Heaven laps <3

Welcome to another episode of Shred Life (check out Episode 1 here).  This time we’re talking about how to experience the resort the right way.  I’m not talking about those fresh snow, early morning powder days where you ski through lunch and come home with sore legs (those are awesome, too though)…but those chill days when you just want to have a vacation on a mountain.  Whistler is just the spot.  Spending the better half of my life skiing Whistler Blackcomb, it’s just my go-to home mountain where I can shred my face off.  I forget it’s an internationally acclaimed winter vacation destination…and sometimes you just need to remember that and take a day to LIVE. IT. UP.  Vacation style.  Read: the art of skiing while in reality not skiing very much.  So shall we begin?

10:00AM  After a leisurely morning in your mountainside lodging, sipping coffee and eating avocado toast, you decide it’s time to seize the sunny day and take in some high altitude and majestic views.

11:00AM  Decide which mountain to ski (Whistler or Blackcomb).  Obviously, Blackcomb.  It gets sun much longer in the day, especially the afternoon.

11:30AM  Reach the top of the Gondola and head over to 7th Heaven, the sunniest and prettiest afternoon zone on the mountain.

12:00PM Summit selfie time, duh.  Then proceed to take some sunny laps.  7th Heaven is great for vacation skiing as the runs aren’t long (you don’t need to be in shape), the views are epic (you get the ‘gram), and the terrain is mellow but fun (the whole crew can come).

2:00PM  After some happy laps in the sunshine, it’s time to grab a (Bailey’s) hot chocolate from the Horstman Hut at the very top of 7th Heaven.  Log cabin sippin’ at 7494 feet elevation, not too shabby.

3:00PM  Wait for the chairlift to close and the whole 7th Heaven bowl to empty out, then have a final epic ski down in what feels like your private ski resort (what’s more VIP than that).  Always remember to stop for the scenic photo op, though.

3:30PM  Ski all the way to the base where you’re lucky enough to be in within ten steps of all the après places you could want.  Whistler is a party town as much as a ski town, and a good friend of mine calls it Canadian Vegas.  A personal fave is The Longhorn where you can chill on the patio overlooking the mountains while sipping Caesars.  All good resort days end with a Caesar, of course.

And there you have it, the perfect “ski” day on the resort.  Treating yourself to the touristy stuff makes you feel like you’re a mini vacay for the afternoon and it’s awesome.  Me and Essex have this routine on lock and like to whip it out sporadically.  Stay tuned for the next Shred Life saga.  Until then, follow me on Instagram (@titaszlachetka).  Happy skiing babeskillets, Tita xx
